Gilly, who?

Reading the news line where Gilchrist of Australia have commented on Tendulkar saying that Sachin is a sore loser! Gilly, as he is fondly known in his courtyard, has mentioned, what he thinks is that Sachin’s statements in the “Monkeygate” affair, which involved a dramatic row over Harbhajan saying something to Symonds, were utterly a big lie.

Gilly also accuses Tendulkar of being unprofessional in some changing room incidents and the same for other Indian players.

And I wonder why these players mention it all in the autobiography after they retire with all the respect and applaud from the their teammates and the entire nation. (I feel many of them simply write the cries which they can’t ever think of uttering at times when they play in the national team for the fear of media and consequently that of the selection committee!) Why do they justify their unworthy personal & professional mistakes or slips, which could have been well resolved then and there itself.

And on the top of all, this all big hover comes at a time when Team Australia has been defeated so badly in Mohali Test. It shows that the former cricket Australia great Gilly could not digest the insult of his team. And who is he to teach professionalism to the person who is known to be the greatest ambassador of Cricket, has gone par with almost all the records?

The Sydney news papers refer to Gilly as the fastest double ton cracker in the test history. And news paper reports him to be writing that he was under private tensions when he played that 200+ innings. This in my opinion, is simply the begging for sympathy. And here he forgets that the man he has alleged to be a loser, holds as many records as even Gilly’s entire team together wouldn’t ever achieve. An unprofessional Sachin would not have scored most number of centuries in both the forms of the game and most number of runs in Test cricket, and what not! It takes heart to face all the criticism from media, to come out of injuries and give an innings to a nation of 100+ millions, which takes him to the top of the world. That’s Tendulkar. And Sachin has proven himself to the world. And a man of his stature does not have to prove anything to anyone. His game does it all for him.

And the release of Gilly’s comments have come at the time when Indian team is all set to cruise towards another win with every one contributing his heart to the game. And the Gilchrist episode is nothing more than just another Australian Cricket effort to disturb the joy, focus and morale of the host team. That’s another poor attempt I must say!

Also, Gilly is forgetting what Indians have as a saying, one should not pelt stones at others when your own house is made up of glass. The spat between Brett Lee and Ponting is in front of the world. Slow over rate charges against Ponting is another issue..

Sportsmanship? Look in to your own team with wide open eyes, Gilly!
